The Big Sandy Area Lakes Watershed Management Project is a citizen driven group that meets to direct activities relating to water quality in the watershed. Participants in the group include: Lake Associations: Big Sandy Lake Association, Lake Minnewawa Association, Prairie Lake Improvement Association, and the Tamarack River Sub-Watershed Team; Local Governments: Cities of Cromwell, Wright, Tamarack, and McGregor; McGregor Township; Aitkin and Carlton Counties; Aitkin and Carlton Soil and Water Conservation Districts; State agencies: Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources, and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Numerous volunteers and concerned citizens are also part of the BSALWMP.
By-laws were adopted to govern the actions of the BSALWMP. These were last updated in 2016. A copy of the By-Laws is available here.
